Welsh Federation of Coarse Anglers Development Programme
Female Participation
Coarse angling has been viewed as a mainly male dominated sport however this is changing especially with more and more females taking up the sport.
The W.F.C.A. have since appointed two female Participation and Development Officers to the WFCA Executive specifically to raise the profile of angling for all females young or old and to encourage competitive development within the regions and at national level. In addition to provide coaching tuition for those who wish to take up the sport or just to improve existing skills.
2008 will see the first Female Welsh Nationals being held along with regular events throughout Wales both in regard to coaching and competitive activities.
The W.F.C.A. would like to hear from any female anglers both adults and juniors who would like to receive regular updates and be a part of a growing sport for females.
Regular events are held in Llanelli at the National Angling Centre further events are being arranged for the North & Southern Regions.
If you would like to get involved or wish to participate in any events or activities get on our regular e-mail mailing list just send your e-mail address to yvonnedarker@aol.com
Jacy and Yvonne will be more than pleased to hear from you.
Regional Centres of Excellence
The W.F.C.A. are introducing three Regional Centres of Excellence. The purpose of this is to meet the growing demand for youth development and increasing participation, skills development for all ages, coaching activities, competitive development, coaching courses and much more.
The areas outlined for these centres will be in the Cardiff or Newport area, Flintshire area and Caernarfon area.
The facilities selected will be existing facilities that can offer a good standard of sport, good access, toilet facilities. In addition each facility must be able to provide affordable accommodation within the principality or on site.
It may be possible to obtain funding to develop or improve existing facilities to bring them up to standard.
Any WFCA affiliated club or commercial fishery wishing to be considered should send details to the Executive Secretary by 1st October.
The Regional centres along with the existing National Centre shall also be running residential summer training camps for juniors commencing in 2008. Further details will be published in November 2007.
Tourism
Many people travel to Wales for the purpose of fishing be it coarse, sea or game fishing and as such the WFCA are working on developing links with accommodation providers, camp sites touring caravan sites etc to promote Angling Tourism in Wales. If your club wishes to take advantage of this and are able to offer day ticket facilities then we would like to hear from you.
This move by the WFCA can generate additional income for both the clubs and the WFCA.
