Federation of Welsh Anglers

The Federation of Welsh Anglers

The Federation of Welsh Anglers, (FWA), was established in late 2005 in recognition of the need for angling unity within Wales, to provide the necessary infra-structure, to be the source of contact and a powerful voice for the representation of angling within the Principality. The Federation’s motto is ‘Mewn Undeb y Mae Nerth’, translated into English means ‘Strength in Unity’ which is self-explanatory.

The Federation of Welsh Anglers is the parent body of the three national governing bodies, namely, the Welsh Federation of Sea Anglers (WFSA), the Welsh Federation of Coarse Anglers, (WFCA), and the Welsh Salmon and Trout Angling Association, (WSTAA), and is actively supported by the Sports Council for Wales and the Environment Agency which are also stakeholders in the organisation. The Federation of Welsh Anglers Coaching Foundation is a sub-committee of the FWA.

The purpose of the Federation of Welsh Anglers is to promote, sustain and develop angling in Wales.

The FWA is recognised by the Welsh Assembly Government as a communicating body for angling in Wales, representing around a hundred and fifty thousand anglers in the principality, many of whom are members of clubs affiliated to their national governing bodies. The FWA plans the introduction of a membership/affiliation scheme for early 2008, incorporating all of the angling industry,(tackle dealers, fishery owners, charter boats, etc.) and appealing to all who fish in Wales.

Besides uniting angling interests and organisations in Wales, one role of the FWA is to create working ‘partnerships’ with, government, government agencies and other organisations, resulting in wide-ranging benefits for angling, conservation and society in general.

The FWA website www. fed-welshanglers.co.uk will be a major focus for angling and all angling related issues within Wales and, provided with an active link into the WTB’s Fishing website, will ensure an all- encompassing source for the whole of angling in Wales  The FWA through its coaching body and working collaboratively with the other angling bodies within the UK, will endeavour to offer the opportunity for everyone who wishes to do so to experience fishing at first hand, and, in so doing, securing the future of angling for generations to come.
